OVO
Explore the world with OVO: your curious friend who turns photography into a fun treasure hunt!
Skills: Programming, CAD - 3D design, Animation
MIT course: 4.031, Design Objects and Interactions. Partner project.
OVO is a robotic friend and camera designed for children to explore their surroundings. OVO prompts the user with a word (tree, bicycle, dog, cat, ...) that you must then find and take a picture by showing it to OVO. This will act as having 'fed' OVO and will have a little animation appear to indicate happiness.
My partner and I created a CAD design, that we then 3D printed. We used Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and an LED screen to show hand-drawn animations. YOLO (You Only Look Once), a real-time object detection program, was used to interact with the camera to make the functionality of finding an object actually useful.
CyanoBag
The CyanoBag is a folding, portable camera that aims to create cyanotype landscapes.
Skills: CAD, Sewing, Design
MIT course: 4.031, Design Objects and Interactions. Partner project.
What if your camera bag was a camera and a bag? The CyanoBag is a foldable and portable cyanotype camera that also acts as a bag and can be used to transport your cyanotype paper and other materials. The CyanoBag can be propped up anywhere and, over the course of many daylight hours, will create a cyanotype landscape.
This project was first 3-D designed and then sewn on a sewing machine. The black and red aspects were picked as an homage to vintage cameras. We were influenced by vintage cameras, bellows, and camera bags.
