In Tea with Whiskers, the player takes on the role of Whiskers, a stuffed cat who wants to organize the perfect tea party for their friends. However, inviting everyone isn’t as simple as sending invitations… each friend deals with their feelings, misunderstandings, or social situations that make it hard for them to come. As Whiskers travels around the neighborhood to invite each friend, the player has to listen carefully, interpret friends' emotions, and help resolve small conflicts between characters. By helping friends feel heard and included, the player gradually brings everyone together for a warm and joyful tea party.
The Shadow
Who are you without your shadow?
Skills: Unity 3D, Design, Code, Worldbuilding
Wellesley course: CS221 Digital Worlds for Gaming. Partner project. Third person player.
The first day you lost your shadow, it felt more like a relief. No need for the lighting crew to add additional lights to hide it. But now, moments before going on stage, you realize that you must chase what you’ve lost, discovering that you were never whole without it.
This project was created on Unity. We created a storyboard, game map, and one sheet to plan out our level. We then developed our level by creating our own assets, architecture, used some assets from the Unity Asset Store. We used cutscenes to help with the beginning of the story. We implemented dithering to add to the sense of loss and confusion. Our shadows were part of a collectible system, having to find all five shadows (depicted by camera switches) before being able to conclude the level on stage. We also included NPCs, dialogue, and animations to further improve the storyline.
The Museum
Explore an abandoned museum, where things aren't quite as simple as they seem.
Skills: Unity 3D, Design, Code, Worldbuilding
Wellesley course: CS221 Digital Worlds for Gaming. Partner project. First-person player.
This museum has been abandoned many, many years ago. Each artwork displayed seems like it's only a painting, but in reality, you can explore another world if you just allow yourself to step foot inside and let go of the "do not touch" notion. Collect as many stars as you can.
We developed our world by creating our own architecture, where instead of loading new levels or screens, there are hidden rooms behind each painting. We used assets from the Unity Asset Store but also made our own materials. We implemented a collectible system of stars, which was a common theme in each of our rooms. We also included some animations. This was the first project in the course, and was used as a way to learn how to world-build and create an immersive environment.
